Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning:

Our Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning service prepares you so your business can recover from a major incident such as catastrophic loss of a server or even the whole network domain. Every company should have a disaster recovery plan in place yet few do. A fire, lightning strike or major tornado could devastate your company with little or no warning and leave you unable to conduct business. Disaster Recovery Planning goes far beyond mere data backups. It is details the complex task of being able to plan in advance so you can quickly recover business-critical systems when faced with an unexpected major incident. Without a Disaster Recovery Plan, you could be faced with a prolonged and expensive recovery phase or possible loss of your business altogether.

Avoid a Devastating Loss

Preparing a viable Disaster Recovery Plan requires a special and highly detailed and methodical approach. Many clients mistakenly think that having backups of their data is all that is needed. If an actual major incident were to occur, they would quickly realize that they could be faced with serious technical and logistical problems in getting their systems back up and operational. In some cases these problems might be insurmountable and could cause devastating loss to the business owner. Techni-Core already has a mature Disaster Recovery Plan in place for our corporation and we have made sure that it works by carrying out simulations to provide us with proof of concept.

What is Included:

The first stage of Disaster Recovery Planning is an educational approach. This includes an introductory presentation on the art and science of true Disaster Recovery. Techni-Core will help you and your management team understand what it really takes to get back on your feet in the face of a major incident.

Techni-Core will then work with you to create an actual written plan. Because Techni-Core’s focus is on IT infrastructure, we will create a plan to show you what is needed to recover your computing assets but we will also help you identify other non-IT business assets that will need to be included as well.

Techni-Core will work with you to:

  • Identify the types of disasters you should be prepared for. This includes every type of incident from the unthinkable (loss of building or key personnel) to loss of servers and so on.)
  • Characterize disasters and identify your critical assets
  • Quantify acceptable business downtime and recovery windows
  • Understand risk and disaster mitigation methods
  • Prepare your Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Publish your Plan
  • Test your Plan
  • Routinely review your Plan

What to do if you have a Disaster:

In the event of an IT emergency, you should immediately call or page your assigned Techni-Core NERD. Restoration of IT services falls under our standard On-Call IT Support Services. If you already have a Disaster Recovery Plan in place Techni-Core's Emergency Response Team can help you activate the plan and work with you to recover your business systems. If you do not have a plan in place, we will assess your situation and determine the best way to recover your systems. Note that system recovery without a Disaster Recovery plan is likely to take longer, be more expensive and some data or systems may not be fully recoverable.

SEI GROUP contracted for network support services from Techni-Core in August of 2001. Since that time, we have expanded our offices threefold, added servers, a hardware firewall, hosted our own ftp site and implemented VPN capability. Our business, like many, requires continuous ‘up-time’ in order to service our customers and allow our personnel access when they need to work. Our electronic business assets must be fully operational and first rate, or we cannot deliver the products and service our customers require.

Techni-Core has been servicing our computer technology needs since 2000. In those years we have installed ever more complicated systems to facilitate electronic time keeping for payroll, Deltek GCS Premier accounting software operating on an internal network with 3 users, and a local network with 8 users on an internal server. Techni-Core, and in particular Lawrence Taylor-Duncan, has been totally responsive to our needs. They usually are here within an hour of the time we call with a problem, depending on the severity of the problem. We especially appreciated the level of effort from Techni-Core when systems go down. We have found that the personnel from Techni-Core in general have a level of expertise and initiative that insures that we get the best support and the quickest service available.

One of the most valuable things Techni-Core does for us is to prevent problems by keeping us up to date with the latest tools to prevent unauthorized user access to our systems and control email problems before they can occur. We don’t let anyone but Techni-Core have access to work on our computers and networks.
